This Changes Everything – The New Problem With Stairs

After recent changes to my manuscript of Across the Wall it has occurred to me that tiny changes early on can lead to massive changes later on. In fact one such massive change has just come to mind in which the main character has to climb stairs to the top of a very very tall wall. However, that scene is far too important to be changed so I’ll have to work around that. At first, giving Emma a slightly less functional leg seemed like a great idea until it occurred to me last night that if she can’t get herself up after a fall she is never going to be able to negotiate stairs and they’re everywhere. In fact the more I think about it the more I realise just how many sets of stairs there are in Ivandar (Emma’s world).

The moral of this tale? Think carefully about any changes you make to a manuscript. It could cause havoc!
