No More Princesses – Disney Calls a Halt to its Princess Film Franchise

We all remember the days of the Disney Princess. Those days when, as little girls, we would sit and dream about a handsome prince carrying us off into the distance and we would live happily ever after. Yes, even I dreamt it though now-a-days you wouldn’t believe it of such a cynic. So if you loved the Princesses then go out and horde every Disney Princess film you can find. Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Jasmine (Aladdin), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Cinderella (Cinderella), Snow White (Snow White), Pocahontas (Poca…you get the idea), Mulan, Tiana (The Princess and the Frog) and Rapunzel (Tangled). When you’ve got them, go out and buy the sequels regardless of how horrible they may be (though generally Disney sequels are pretty good – I mean have you seen Toy Story 3?). The reason for this Princess horde?

Disney is no longer making Disney Princess films. Tangled is to be the final princess film as Disney attempts to add some life realism to its films. Apparently it’s not fair to let little girls grow up thinking that they can be princesses and that a handsome prince will whisk them off to a happily ever after. Basically they’re saying, kids shouldn’t think that life’s going to be dandy. But I say yes they should! I was brought up on Disney films (not just Disney princesses) and now that I’m an adult I’m not deluded by some childish fantasy (much :P) as, I’m sure, the rest of the adults that grew up with Disney can agree.

Why not let kids have that fantasy for as long as they can get away with because they can’t keep it for long and it’s not fair to just take it away all together. I for one will raise my children (when I have them) on Disney films and let them keep the dream alive!
